The Retro Gaming Roundup forums may be where Mike got his inspiration for building a video game console and bringing it to market.

A listener to the Retro Gaming Roundup podcast, Adrian Killens of the band The British IBM, posted a question about just such a thing:

Does anyone reckon there’d be a market for a brand new 8 Bit console? i.e. not a hacked together computer or a clone but a completely new dedicated 8 Bit console.
Adrian Killens

Mike of course jumped at the idea with his familiar catchphrase from the podcast:

Let’s do a KICKSTARTER!
Mike Kennedy

Whether this is what gave Mike the inspiration or not is unclear, but his vision of a new, retro inspired console that used cartridges for its games was born and would ultimately prove to be his downfall.

If Retro magazine was mismanaged into the ground, it was nothing compared to how Mike would handle the business behind the Retro VGS and the Coleco Chameleon.
