Monday Meme

Mike had set his sights on cornering the retro market and taking on the might of Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony in the video game market, but would he succeed?.

Even though he was targeting a different audience to the giants of the video game industry, Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony, Mike’s console would sit alongside them on store shelves and they must be considered as potential contemporaries to the Retro VGS and the Coleco Chameleon.

The memes reflected this of course, and being a retro inspired system, Sega got a mention too. In particular, this one referred to the classic “Sega does what Nintendon’t” advertising campaign of the 1990s.

Following the New York Toy Fair outing for the Coleco Chameleon, Mike had announced a deal that he had done with Atari to release 300 of their classic games for his system, an announcement that Atari later refuted and denied, but of course, the memes made Atari references as well.

For more background on the story, you can check out our Thursday Quotes and read all about it in much more detail in the book Smoke And Mirrors of course.

Our Monday Memes come from various places, but mainly from Atari Age.
